A step back in time.....
The people of Belgium live a simplistic life of good beer, good chocolate, good sex (wait, I don’t know about that) and having the company of good mates around that you never feel the need to check your phone. It’s true, I hardly checked mine in Belgium. Just add the Mediterranean Sea into the mix and you’ve got yourself a good life. Bruges has never been a place on my list for Europe however my two closest friends convinced me into the right decision. I loved it! Although a very short trip Bruges was my favourite of them all. A late-night stroll took me into the main square with Doris Day’s, ‘Whatever Will be, Will be’ ((Que Sera, Sera)) playing from the speakers at a local bar. Men laughing and smoking outside in the 14-degree temperature. 🎶 Ohhh, whatever will be, will be… 🎶 Men ride their bikes over the small bridge down the street, like little kids. And they look at me, and I like the attention. I’m already in love…with this town, I mean. The air even feels fresher when I’m exploring the night by myself. I feel like me again. The town square is incredible. A dome of buildings so beautifully lit up at night. A mixture of petite and large- including the central bell tower. Of course, because what village doesn’t have a bell tower. And here, I feel peace, a real sense. The youth drink whiskey straight from the bottle. A father whistles for his kids in the far corner. It’s 11:30pm and people still dine in restaurants in the square. Surrounded by swans on the lake, two lovers sit outside the window sill, drinking from a brown bag with their legs almost touching the water- gracing the surface. Just missing it. And here, situated on the bridge watching these two lovers, I think to myself- I simply must see more of Belgium. Because, um, waffles! These photos have been selected and edited the same in order to reflect the timelessness of Bruges. Travelling w/ Busabout.
