I'VE RETURNED to the land down-under from another six-month stint overseas and hope to bring some helpful (yes, money related) advice to your Thursday night from our featured guest writer: Louise Keough. Let's get straight to the point: 3 WAYS TO MAKE MONEY WRITING ONLINE I am still mastering the art of remote work. Beginning my quest to work for what I love started almost six years ago when I arrived in Australia. I had hop skipped it all the way from Dublin, and with my discovered sense of wanderlust, came a new-found desire to build a life I love. I wanted to earn money on my own terms whilst picking up temp work when needed. I enjoyed writing, and this passion awoke an entrepreneurial side of me. I decided it was time to capitalise. The world we live in is becoming more and more lived online, so it is natural to turn to the world wide web for generating cash. In this short, snappy piece, I am going to give you a couple of top tips to earn money writing online.
(1) Network I began to write for free. How is this money generating you wonder? From my perspective, I was building foundations and contacts. By writing blogs for free, I was creating a portfolio, and by guest posting on other bloggers websites, I was making my name. A great way to find blogs is to access a blog directory. I also wrote some pieces for free newspapers, which again enables me to build a footprint in the media world. (2) Hustle Once I had my roots in writing, I began to search for paid work online. I have had good fortune on Gumtree, Airtasker and even American content writing websites such as Constant Content. Locally, I posted ads on Facebook groups, and I eventually set up my site. There is a lot to be said for having a professional logo, business card and email address. Believe in yourself, and everyone else will believe in you too. (3) Never Give Up It has been hard trying to carve out a living for myself. I have muddled my way through a myriad of temp jobs, while also trying to source paying clients to help me live my writing dream. But it has been so worth it! There is something incredibly powerful about typing away in the quiet of the night knowing that when I wake tomorrow, I am not a slave to the nine to five. I may never be wealthy, but I will always be free. LOUISE KEOGH Is an Irish Copywriter living in Australia.
